Landscaping can be a very interesting hobby. Landscaping basically means modifying a piece of land by the aesthetic use of plants as well as material objects like pots, fences etc. to create a beautiful setting. You can make use of decorative plants and flowers. Landscaping integrates gardening with designing. Landscaping involves a bit of brain using too. If you have the inclination you can turn your backyard into a beautiful garden. Landscaping can be put to various uses as well. First of all, Landscaping can be put to commercial use. Landscaping has been known to improve labor productivity. It has been observed that those offices that have good landscaping have greater employee attendance. More and more offices, hotels, hospitals and other such places have begun to hire professional people to beautify their landscape. Employees show greater productivity when they are working in a clean and beautiful environment. At hospitals, patients recover faster when the landscaping is well designed. |

Landscaping in a dry climate may seem to many like a hopeless proposition. After all, there are few plants that can thrive without water. However, it seems especially discouraging during times of drought, as one would expect that at sometime the climate should not be so dry. There is no reason to despair, however. While there are certainly risks associated with landscaping in the dry climate produced by drought, it by no means indicates that your plants and your yard will suffer by doing so. By taking a few simple things into account, you can landscape for a dry climate, and when the drought is over enjoy the fruits of your labor so much more. There are actually good reasons to plant in a dry climate during times of drought, and to plant in semi-arid regions where water restrictions may be a regular part of life. The reasons are thus: plants provide shade and can increase a homes energy efficiency; they provide emotional and mental relief, as they are naturally pleasing; it is important to have diverse species in landscapes; and replacement trees can decrease plant life loss due to injury, age, or disease. Additionally, trees and shrubs contribute greatly to soil stability, preventing erosion. |

I use landscape lighting on all sides of my home. Living on twenty-eight acres and isolated in a wooded area, I wanted to make sure that my immediate spaces were brightly lit for safety as well as a theft deterrent. My family is also big on creating outdoor rooms and the landscape lighting allows us to enjoy our gardening endeavors long after the sun has gone down. It’s even encouraged us to plant night blooming flowers we wouldn’t have bothered with before. The low voltage landscape lighting we chose is both decorative and functional. I wanted to make sure we chose a lighting solution that would allow us to maximize the display of our herb and flower beds, but that also wouldn’t interfere with necessary tasks like snow plowing and watering. There were so many choices for decorative and functional landscape lighting out there that I had a fun time choosing the perfect look for our landscaping needs. |

The Chinese did it, the Japanese did it and followers of the art of Zen Buddhism still make it part of their daily lives. Rock gardens have been around for years but it is only within the past few decades that the western world has come to appreciate their true beauty, and the spirit of the earth that lies within. The purpose of a rock garden is to combine the earthen elements of rock, flora and fauna to recreate on a smaller scale the grandeur of a mountainside. When selecting rocks for a rock garden it is essential to combine a multitude of sizes, shapes and colors. While rock gardens are intending to be soothing they are not intended to be monotonous, and should be visually stimulating while relaxing the soul. Combining rocks such as red sandstone with those of a plain grey or brown color can help create a pleasing contrast that draws the eye of the viewer. |

Many people feel that when they are ready to design a landscape, that a landscape architect is necessary. They do not feel that their natural tastes or inclinations are “correct,” and they feel that they may irrevocably ruin their yard if they try something on their own. While it is true that some people may cause irreversible damage to their homes when they try their hand at design without a landscape architect, what they do not realize is that their problems have very little to do with design. A landscape architect will not actually install your features or plant your flowers, trees, and shrubs. That is up to you. You either have to do it yourself or hire someone to follow the plan drawn out by the architect. So, the question becomes whether or not you really need the help of a landscape architect to design your home environs. |

Bulbs are the fleshy underground protuberances of leaves, stems or roots. Actually, "bulb" is a generic term, and some of these underground protuberances, all of which will grow into full plants, are more correctly called "corms" or "tubers." Tubers are thickened stem sections, covered with modified buds; corms are also underground stem sections, but without the bud. Some of the loveliest flowers are bulbs, and gardeners rely on them heavily because they bloom in such profusion with little care or cultivation. They are among the first blooms of early spring, with the diminutive snowdrop, for example, appearing in early March. |

Landscape lighting sets the scene for a home or a business building. The use of different colors can enhance the beauty of the landscape at night. It can also be unique to special areas by subtle flooding or specific spotlighting. The creative imagination of the landscape lighting installer is the limiting factor on what can be done. This landscape lighting can be solar powered or run off of current supplied by the home or business. Voltage can be either 12 volts or 120 volts. A building lighted in this way can become magical at night. The lighting will make it stand out from all of the surrounding structures. |
